The Rising Tide

"Great!"

submission: The Rising Tide
date: January 6, 2009

Woo, that's awesome if you recorded it when you were 14, really there are some great riff and it was well played. Good job with the drums, the double was sometime a bit off tempo, but it's still nice. That break at 0:18 was so tasty, fucking enjoyable :D.

You said that a friend of your play the drums and another played the second guitar but what about the bass? There is a bass and it's obvious (1:42), so who played it? lmao - Sorry, I'm being a bitch ;P. Well done overall, you get my five!

Author's Response:

I wrote it at 14, I recorded it at my current age of 15 :P Theres only so much you can do with the drums dude, the drummer (16) had not warmed up and was tired :P My friend (16) played second guitar (left) and I (15) played guitar (right) and bass. We're youngsters :P

Happyhomicide's solo challenge

"Nice harmonisations"

date: January 6, 2009

Quite good soloing there, I especially enjoyed the harmonisations you did, I think you used the Minor harmonic scale here, the backing track works well with that scale ;). I think HH said it in his author's description. The sweepings were nice but it could have been a bit cleaner - sorry, I'm bitching :P. Nice tapping also, these licks were well harmonised again :D.

Overall, good try, I should give a try to this one also xD. 5'd brother.

Author's Response:

Warn me when it's out, I'd definitely want to ear it! :)
Thanks a lot for your review but don't speak scales with me, I'm just playing by ear, which is a shame I know (damn, I realy need to learn scales XD).
I know about the sweepings, I did my best :p I'll keep practicing, don't worry ^^
C ya, and thanks again bro'!

Dimoria - Little Wing

"Great"

date: January 6, 2009

Man, you are awesome in all music style, it pisses me :P. Great version of Little-Wing, I found this pretty awesome although you lacked of time.

Nice rhythm section, the guitar sounded old school, nice job with the tone. And the bass tone was ... grungy, as in the original, it's pretty awesome it gave the song an authentic feeling. The drums were awesome as always, that snare is tasty as fuck. Nice drum fills and breaks.

The solo was killer, you got an amazing feeling, that first bend was fantastic, it sounded SteveVai-ish, are you Vai inspired? The ending was nice but too bad the last part with the dist guitar was too short, I would love to hear a bit more of that ;). Other than that, well done <3. 5'd.

Author's Response:

Well I think this whole song is sort of the worst I've ever done. But I wanted to throw up something full for once. And I made this for my aunt as a christmas present. This is her favourite song . And it made her cry ( in the good way ;D ) so it fills my need for this song. But really nothing special about this one.
Cheers.

Rage of the DarKness

"Aww epic!"

date: January 6, 2009

That's an insane idea, one of the best Classical Artist and one of the best - actually not ;) - Metal Artist collabing, that must kick some ass.

Yeah, great guitar work, I really like you guitar tone, very dry and clean. And your riffing is precise as always. The solo/melody at 0:51 is so nice, nice picking, this sounds very DarKside-ish :). And kick ass song by Maestro, he got a very unique sound, that "Dind Ding" like you said is awesome xD. Well, I can't criticise that much, so nice fucking job.

Also, I like that mailing list, it help me to keep a track of your latest submissions, nice idea. I should do the same and flood your hotmail inbox so you will HAVE to review my song lmao. 5'd fucker.

Author's Response:

Haha, well, what can I say? Since the "fan-stats" here on NG are only a gimmick at the moment, I guess it was the best thing I could do. Informing the people over reverbnation is very easy and the best of all...free AND you can earn money as well...not millions but hey, a little is something as well! ;)

Yeah, Maestro is quite the epical wanker of failness! Glad you liked it homi! ;D

Emerald City

"Pretty enjoyable :)"

submission: Emerald City
date: January 6, 2009

I finally can get reviewed some of your work, it's been a long time I didn't review anything from you, sorry :(. Well let's analyse it :P.

From the beginning I loved it, that first chord progression played by the harp is awesome, I loved how you sequenced those two minor chords at the beginning - I believe those chords are Db minor and B minor. Also great work programming the harp, I guess it must be quite difficult and you managed to make it sounding very realistic.

Great strings work too, the "pizzicato" sounded nice and fitted very well the ambiance of the song. Also the violins sounded very "crystal-ish" if you get what I mean. I noticed some good percussion in that piece, especially the cymbal work, the cymbals rolls sounded well. It really added a nice feeling, like a short fire works ...

Composition-wise, it was really professional, great and complex melodies. The arrangements were perfect and I can assume it's harder to arrange well an orchestral piece than a metal piece :P. What do you use to create those orchestral instruments? I'm asking because it sounds very realistic. I think I already asked you the same thing before and you answered me FL Studio, though that piece sounds too realistic to be created with FL ... Maybe you optimized FL as hell ;).

Overall, it was a bit different from your old pieces and it was not really what I excepted, I'm not meaning I excepted a better stuff, it just surprised/amazed me ;P. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you. 5'd.

Et vive la France xD.

"Kick ass collab"

date: January 1, 2009

Nice dude, it really cought my attention from the beginning, very catchy.

About your work, Dickface, that was pretty good. Nice guitar tone, neat and clean, also your tone fitted the mix very well although the rhythm guitar tracks could have been a bit louder. Your guitar tone was sweet. Awesome drums job here! It sounded very real and I could not have noticed that you were using EZdrummer without being informed of it before.

And the synth work was epic, I have no complain about it, really. The synths gave a Video Game feeling to the song and I found very interesting to mix between heavy guitars and video game sounds, nice idea. At 4:15, is that a lead synth or your guitar? It was hard to decide since it sounded distorted but also synthetic.

Overall, kick ass piece of work, the amount of work behind this is obvious and I really dug it :D. 5'd by bro \m/ 4.66 / 5.00 (+ 0.041)

Author's Response:

Gathering review responding points ey? You little schmuck yo! ;D

Anyways...rule 10. Hmm, I do agree on the rhythm guitar but that's something that can be corrected quite quicky. Seeing that this song is more synth based I think it's ok the way it is. Try hearing it on a 5.1 stereo. You'll notice that the rhythm guitar is fine the way it is, even if it sounds a bit "down under". ;)

Hehe, as for the drums. I kinda tried something new there. Glad you think that it sounded authentic! >:) At 4:15, there are lead synths playing. We had the idea of a duet first but I think going with the synth there was a better idea. :) I do play a little melodical solo from 5:27 if you haven't noticed that as well. lol

Thanks for the 5 and the review SonOfCock!

Its Cold Test

"Sweet"

submission: Its Cold Test
date: December 31, 2008

That riff is sweet as fuck dude, that chord progression reminds me of and old riff I wrote and that I submitted on my alt, but I already told you that.

The guitar effect at the beginning were awesome, that reversed delay gave a chilly feeling to the song and it really correspond with the title. I use this kind of effect a lot on my songs to create a kind of synth. Though at 0:10 when it gets heavy, that reversed cymbals is too loud and it erase the power of the riff that follows, if you get what I mean ...

At 0:33, that ambiance is pure genius, these guitar riffs are so tasty and here again, great use of the delay on the guitar. As always in your song, the drums kick ass. I can notice that you used some samples from Superior 1.0, I think. At least the snare sounds like Superior 1.0 :P. That drum fill at 0:38, is so fucking effective ... I love it.

Well, for a test, it's great as fuck. Too bad it's just a test ... Like half of your song :(. I'm really looking forward to hearing a FULL song from you ; ). Great job 5'd.

January 6, 2009

Author's Response:

Thx man ;) I don't really know which song you mean but it's kind of cool that we think alike ;) I actually just recorded the riff , then went to audio in cubase and processes and then just faded it in. I think I have some kind of phaser effect on it.
But I didn't reverse it. Yeah I have to agree with the cymbal. I just made this fast to show J1mp something for his game. I'm gona try to continue on it. But as of now I sort of have a problem with the drums. Everytime I save something the drums disappear for some reason. That is the Sup 1 drums . I just use the Kick from Sup 2 so it's always there. As I said earlier I'll try to make a full song. The problem is just I have such few ideas nowadays so when I have a new one I start on that one. Glad you liked it :) Cheers.

Piss Coming From My Ass

"O.o"

date: December 28, 2008

That is bad ass dude. The first thing I noticed is that you changed your drum kit a bit, the snare is different, it used more high frequencies. Also the kick is pure brutality, I love this kick sound with a whole bunch of high and few middle ^^. Though at 1:39, the snare sounds too synthetic if you see what I mean, not very realistic. The cymbals sound well too.

The guitar tone was nice as fuck and the bass fitted well the guitar tone. The riffing was great as always, very precise and accurate. My favourite was at 1:53, this riff is just bad ass. Though at 1:58, it would seems that the riff is a bit off tempo. This is my only complain.

This made my day, brutal as fuck as I like, thanks : ). 5'd.

December 28, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks a lot for the review, man, that is the best feedback I have gotten. I understand that the riff sounded a little off a few seconds into it, that would be my fault (it was just a bitch to play, haha). The snare is just a sample, so I had very little control over not letting it sound a bit synthetic. I am glad you like how everything sounds otherwise though, I did this mainly for practice. Hopefully I will pump out something a little better soon. Thanks again, dude!

RD Dusted

"Groovy!"

submission: RD Dusted
date: December 26, 2008

That sounded old school as fuck \m/. That bass line at the beginning was great but used to much resonance in my opinion, decreasing the resonance would not hurt. Though when the drums came in, that matter of resonance was not to obvious so it's ok. The beat was powerful and the kit well chosen, I especially enjoyed the kick.

The guitar was a great addition and I'm happy to hear some Hip-Hop with guitar on it, that bring me some good memories. Too bad, few people make good Hip-Hop nowadays. That chords progression was nice but a bit excepted. Did you played the guitar yourself? It sounded quite realistic.

It's a good and solid piece overall, I don't listen to Hip-Hop that often but I'm going to check my hard drive and see what I have. 5'd as well.

December 26, 2008

Author's Response:

Thank you very much - Nope, this is EJAY MD Gold, so no instruments played by me, sadly.

This was my 2nd track so wasn't too familiar with the nitty-bitty details, frequencies, volume controls, resonance and all that razzle. When it comes to me it's all about a catchy beat and making sure whatever goes with it flows well.

Glad you like it and thanks for the review ^^

Isla Nublar

"Beautiful"

submission: Isla Nublar
date: December 26, 2008

This really cought my ear from the first note. I'm listening the whole piece before analyse it in details, that's pretty awesome, I feel like in a film or in a video game.

The first melody played by that little instrument (sorry I don't listen classical music that often :P) was pretty and the bells gave this intro a dark feeling. Then the chord progression fitted very well the melody, that type of progression remind me of some Halloween themes - Maybe it's just me ; ). Then some other instruments came in until 0:48, I love how the double bass played pizzicato, it gave that part an interesting mood, I can imagine a predator hidden behind a three spying his prey.

I would talk about time signatures, what are you using on this song? I can think about 6/4 but at 1:00 it changes a bit and I can think it switches to 6/8, but I'm not sure. The rhythm in this piece was really interesting. These piano riffs were great (3:11) and I could metalize this piece easily with awesome piano riffs like that :P.

What VSTs are you using in that piece? All the instruments you used sounded excellent and I was pretty impressive. East West ? GPO ? Tell me :P. Anyway, this really reminded me of some Symphony X songs - An orchestral progressive metal band - and that's pretty good.

Overall a great piece, with a great amount of quality and very well produced. Well composed also. 5'd.

December 27, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks lots, man. Glad you enjoyed it.

I used GPO for this piece, as with most of my others. I compose in Sibelius, import the MIDI into FL, then apply the sounds there.

The first part is in 3/4, the temp increases at 1:00, then the time signature changes to 6/8 at 1:24 and stays at that for the rest of the piece.

Thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed it!
