[TMM43] The 7th Day

"Good job"

date: November 21, 2008

Like I told you, I usually don't listen Trance, Techno, and Dance. And I review this kind of song less than I listen this kind of music lol. Anyway, let's see this.

Nice begining, even if I'm not a pro about Trance songs, I noticed that a lot of songs begin like this song, I mean, with a very interesting panning job. And you did a pretty good work with the EQ, at the begining. I enjoyed how the melody came in during all the first minute. The drum kick played half-notes from 0:27 until 0:55, it gave the intro a nice feeling and I have to admit that it made me bang my head lol. And then, at 0:55, when the drum kick plays whole notes, the song iteself started.

Then, after the voice thing at 1:08, the song started to be a bit boring, but you said it in the author's comment, so I forgive you :P. The chord progression could have been a bit more complicated though, these four chords were not enough in my opinion. But I was surprised (in a good way) to hear a "Re-Intro" at 1:53. It really diversified the song although the chords were still the same. During that "Re-Intro" the strings were pretty nice : ). And then a 3:00 the song start again with a good amout of epicness lol.

Overall, a good piece of work. The quality was really nice and I can't complain about anything, the mixing was perfect. Also you did a nice choice of instruments, I especially liked the drum kick because it used a nice about of high freqences and wasn't just bass frequences. The other instruments were great as well. So yeah, next time, a better chord progression would be more than welcome lol. But overall, great job. 5'd. 3.81 / 5.00 (+ 0.13)

Author's Response:

Well first, I'd like to thank you for reviewing a genre you don't usually.
I do like to start my songs off with a mellow beginning and work my way towards a more epic sounding song. I feel that it gives me song a more dynamic sound to it.
Yeah I took the half note kick from my song "love the DJ". I really liked the way it sounded in that song and it worked out pretty well in this one.
I'm sorry the song was a little boring. :( I did try to mix things up a little by added the breakdown and a couple other things. So I hope that helped a little.
The chord progression is really simple. I just wanted to add some sort of ambiance to the song with minimal properties without taking away from the rest of the song. But I guess I did the complete opposite and took away from the song. haha
I really worked pretty hard on the mixing. That's what I try to work on the most in songs. I don't like when songs don't have good transitions and when different sounds come in unexpectedly.
Thanks a lot for your kind and critical review! I love these types of reviews.
:D

"Kick ass"

submission: Bananardcore Phone

You are pure genious ... Did you recorded the first part your self or did you just take the track ? In anycase it was pure awesomeness.

Then the riffs were awesome, your guitar tone is fucking sick o.O The guitar tone used enough of Middle Frequence without being "scruffy" if you get what I mean :P.The riffs sounded pretty progressive and the transitions a different tempo (I'm not sure though) stressed the progressive side of the song. The chromatisms played by the guitar were powerful and gave this dark feeling to the song.

The vocals were pretty insane, I can assume that there were not any lyrics lol. Very powerful screams. Overall it was short but very nice so a fat 10 from me and 5'd as well.

Wooow dude thanks a looot :D
I didn't record the first part myself, I just took it, increased the speed and added some mixing stuff.
Thanks for what you said about my guitar tone, even if now I've got a different one XD!
Your comment realy made my day, thanks for the 10 and 5 too! :)

"Groovy lol"

date: November 14, 2008

It made me bang my head lol. The slow tempo gave the song a fucking groovy feeling, I enjoyed it a lot. And the melody was funny. Though, I think it souned quite empty if you see what I mean ... You should have used more instrument => more contrast with the original song and more coolness lol. But good production as always :P. 5'd.

"Guitar tone"

date: November 14, 2008

Your guitar tone is getting better and better, more powerful and more powerful, heavier and heavier ... in short awesome, I really loved it. And I notice that your riffing is also better than it used to be >:[. Lol. The chords progression at 0:24 was nice as fuck, very "solo-able" if you see what I mean. Good drum track also but more deversification wouldn't hurt, I know I'm such a bitch :P. I'll definatly give a try to this backing track : ). 5'd.

Author's Response:

I know about the diverse drum track. I made this same day I made the last drum track. Before I idolized your insanity on those. haha. ha.

ANyways, thank you for the review. You better do some soloing on this one day.

Kick ass man.

A one note song that kicks ass

"LOL"

date: November 14, 2008

LOL, awesome idea dude, really enjoyed the concept :P. The riffs were very clean and well executed. I think your guitar were tuned in "Drop D" isn't it ? Well, I have one thing to complain about, the rythm was good but since there is only one note, the rythm could be more complicated and diversified ;P. Kick ass song 5'd.

Author's Response:

Haha, thanks man. YEah, one note.
Thanks for the review, my brother.

That was so groovy, wicked riffs, great orchestration. Your soloing is impressive as hell, I'm jalous lol. I sounded quite Satriani-ish. Very good stuff.

At first sight, I though it was a Misceallaneous song but then the guitar came and it was pure ownage \m/. You could push up the rythm guitar volume and push down the bass volume though. And as I said previously the soloing was insane, I loved the legatto part. I'm not sure, but did you use the Lydian mode ? I liked how you mixed up the Lydian and the pentatonic scales.

The orchestral part in the middle of the song was a very very good addition, this reminded me of Symphony X, you know Progressive/Orchestral metal :D. It sounded very dark and the atonal stuff emphasized this feeling, quite awesome. Thanks for displaying the VSTs/Plugins you used, I'm going to download some :P.

Overall, it's another master piece from you, I really enjoyed listening and reviewing this one : ). 5'd as well.

Author's Response:

Hey, get off internet and get practicing guitar >:((
joking :)) love your review and your music too ...
I don't really know what I'm using there, is sort of Pentatonic combined with Dorian and some weird chromatizations, something that fits to fingers more than to theory :))
Even that I started with the clean guitar, the orchestral part is my favorite, I think I'm in an atonal mood, so, expect more atonal stuff (metal or not).
Thanx for review, now get yourself recording the Funk track :p

Funny shit there, great guitar tone, and very brutal drums, very unjoyable I must say. The snare was especially great, well done. The lead tone was very good too, the delay was well mixed and at the end, when the lead guitar ends, it was pretty awesome :P. The melody and the riffs reminded me a lot of ...And Justice For All, I think it sounds a lot like the song called "To Live Is To Die" ... \m/

Very good stuff, Darky. 1'd as well :P

Icarus - Dream of Flight

"You god"

date: November 4, 2008

Composition-wise, the most perfect job I have ever heard ... this is seriously awesome.

The first theme with the trompets tutti was awesome, it gave from the first second of the song, an epic feeling, I really enjoyed it. AT 1:32 when the clarinet plays the E, I can easily hear the Lydian mode. I also enjoyed a lot when the piano came in, and especially at 0:42, where you added the 7th (I think it's a G#), it gave this part a nice feeling, a very original feeling, well done.

Then, it's the trompet solo ... I can complain, you are the master O.o. Very smooth improvisation, the variations were great. The groove was great also, the drums were maybe a bit complicated, this is why the groove sounded more Jungle/Latin than Jazz. I'm not saying that Jungle is more complicated than Jazz but I the Latin beat use more the Snare and the Jazz is more focused on the Ride Cymbal and on the Rim Shot. And good bass groove, what program did you used to program it ? It sound awesome.

I enjoyed how the main theme came back at 2:20, the main theme fit very well the improvisation. At first listen I didn't notice the main theme coming back but after two of three listens I noticed the main theme coming, I must say this is pretty brilliant. Then end was pretty good, though, I think you could add 4 eighth notes played by the snare to make the end more powerful lol. It's just my Metal Head opinion :P. Anyway, the plane sound at the begining and the end was a very nice addition.

Overall, you deserve to win the MAC, so congrats ! About the song itself, the Lydian Mode was the best to give the song an happy and epic feeling. I can see that you put a lot of effort on this one (as always), it could have been a bit longer though. Congrats again. 5'd and Favorited.

Ps: I'm recording my solo for the Funk Contest, and I post a preview on my alt because I need your opinion. I'm PMing you.

November 5, 2008

Author's Response:

Wow, that's a long one :))
You took your time to analyze this, I never did ... when I make music I'm in sort of trance and things goes much different than I plan ... somehow wasn't supposed to be Lydian ... at the end I realized that I can sing along "The Simpson's Theme".
Also I wanted to have more like a Jungle rhythm then I thought to make Latin ... from this indecision I ended up in the middle, which I'm quite happy about :)
Beside trumpets, everything is made in Reason, played on my keyboard, there is more info in song description.
The theme in improvisation came without planning, I was in that state of trance.
I'm glad you like it, somehow I was expecting the other one to be more successful, but who's complaining :)) I'm not
Thanx for review.

now get off internet and practice guitar :P

Haha, you and Gorebastard are ones of the last musicians on NG who use Acoustica BeatCraft. I used to use it in my songs, and it bring me some great memories, so yeah, thanks for using it :P. About the song itself, the riff were pretty insane, the playing was very clean and the guitar tone very clean. The overall mix was good also, no saturation, no clipping. Well done ! 5'd.

November 5, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks dude! I think I'll stay with Acoustica for a while, it's some good shit ;D

date: November 3, 2008

I can recognise your style from the first note of the song. You really master those Midi programs :P. The ambiance was quite nice, dark and scary. The piano that play the very low notes gave the song this very particular feeling, but you have an other secret to make your songs sounding as good :P. My favorite part was at 3:08, I guess the instrument is called "sawtooth" or something like that, it sounds great. But I can notice in a lot of your songs that the ending could be improved, I mean the ending was to unexpected, I want to hear an Epic end ! 5'd as always !

December 26, 2008

Author's Response:

Yes, the sawtooth was playing at 3:08. UNfortunatly, MP3:corruption was the last episode in sale... but I guess there will be a 4th one... it will be written "Did you ever think it was over ? Then you were wrong !!! I promise that my work will continue ! "Metroid Prime 4 : Addiction" THe game has just begun!" Thanks for the review, mate !
